Save Our Soup (L)

2012

Plastic, indestructible and endlessly recyclable. Time and time again the material can be broken down and shaped into new products. Like super clay. Strangely enough plastics are mostly used for single use products with a functional life time of less then 30 minutes. Think of bottles, cups and plastic bags. To make matters worse, much of it ends up in the ocean, becoming an ingredient for a global bowl of soup. Eaten by smaller species of marine life, this plastic is slowly but steadily passed up the food chain and eventually will find its way into your own bowl of soup.

Save Our Soup is a modular lamp, available in (S)mall, (M)edium and (L)arge. The triangular modules are made from recycled plastic soap bottles. The flow of bright colours of the shredded bottles show a resemblance to the plastic soup in our oceans. But reshaped as a lamp the plastic is saved from our soup. Instead it has found a new use that is more fitting to its durability.
