Holland by night

Holland by night is a table lamp based on the light emissions from The Netherlands. The lamp shows a light map of Holland that is more shaded where there is less light and brighter in the more densely populated regions. The design is taken from actual space images from the country at night and makes you aware of your own influence on the bigger picture. How the micro level affects the macro level. Your decision to turn the lamp on or off has an effect on the larger scale. The lamp is built using a plastic shade that is produced with rapid manufacturing techniques. Rather a form derived from the designer's mind, this lamp uses scientific data, transforming it into a functional object.
The lamp is produced in collaboration with TNO and De Hub.
